Alberta’s Main Street communities have developed a range of useful tools and techniques for implementing the Four Point Approach. We are pleased to make these resources available to communities and encourage you to contact us with suggestions and strategies of your own to add to the toolkit.

Some of the documents are large files that may take some time to download over slower connections. On these pages (and throughout the site), holding your cursor over the link will show information on the link type or file type and size. PDF documents can be opened with a viewer such as the free Adobe Reader.

Program information. This section includes the program’s recent annual reports to the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation, publications, promotional items, and application materials.

Main Street manuals. Seven handbooks developed by the program in 1998 detail the Main Street process and share project community experiences through case studies and practical tips.

Project documents. Prepared by or for Alberta Main Street project communities, these documents include project strategic plans or “Resource Team Reports”, main street area design guidelines, and final reports summarizing the achievements of Main Street communities.

Building project profiles. Extracted from recent final project reports and other sources, these profiles summarize design decisions, rehabilitation methods and costs for individual building projects as well as information on suppliers and special materials or preservation processes.

Publications and links. Alberta Community Development’s Heritage Notes, links to provincial and national heritage programs and partner organizations, and other internet resources.
