Main Street Membership Network
AMSP supports the network of membership-based Main Street communities across the Province. There are two levels of membership for communities in the Alberta Main Street Network – "Basic" membership for those member communities of the Main Street Network preparing for and pursuing accreditation, and "Enhanced" membership for Accredited Alberta Main Street Communities.
Eligibility for Main Street Network Membership
To be eligible for membership in the Alberta Main Street Network, all communities must meet the following requirements:
- Municipal Council endorsement of membership in the Alberta Main Street Network;
- A Municipal Heritage Inventory must be completed for the Main Street Area that includes Statements of Significance for all the potential Historic Resources in the area, as well as a Statement of Significance for the area or district. Cost-shared funding is available for Municipal Heritage Inventories from the Municipal Heritage Partnership Program (MHPP);
- Historical significance and integrity possessed by at least 50% of the buildings within the proposed "Main Street footprint" area. This means that the proposed Main Street commercial district must be truly historic;
- Employment of a Main Street Coordinator must meet the conditions set out for the particular population size of the community.
To enable the eligibility of smaller communities throughout the province, as well as joint Main Street initiatives, the Alberta Main Street Program may consider "regional" Main Street projects on a case by case basis.
