Membership Benefits and Services

Communities in Alberta are given the opportunity to join a network of accredited Alberta Main Street Communities. Member communities receive a suite of services and benefits, receive priority cost-shared funding for MHPP heritage planning projects, and are eligible to apply for cost-shared grants through the Heritage Preservation Partnership Program.

Basic Membership:

Basic membership is offered to communities who are actively working towards designation to be an Accredited Alberta Main Street community. Benefits include:

  1. On-Site Visit
  2. Recommendations for Implementation
  3. Advancement to Accreditation
  4. Additional basic membership services include:
    • Peer support;
    • Ongoing comprehensive training for Main Street coordinators and board members;
    • Subsidies for registration cost to attend the annual National Main Street Conference;
    • Technical assistance relating to the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada;
    • Advice on heritage tourism programs and marketing;
    • Priority access to cost-sharing from the Municipal Heritage Partnership Program (MHPP).

Enhanced Membership

Enhanced membership is offered to communities who have achieved designation as an Accredited Alberta Main Street Community. Benefits include:

  1. Sustainability Services to help maintain your Standards of Performance
  2. Technical Assistance
  3. Training
    • Scholarships for registration cost to the annual National Main Street Conference.
  4. Educational Resources
  5. Special Events and Networking
  6. Official use of the Alberta Main Street logo and use of the term "Alberta Main Street Community"
  7. Joint Marketing
  8. Annual Alberta Historical Resources Foundation Main Street Awards
  9. Eligibility for Program Grants
    • Eligible to receive priority for cost-shared funding for Municipal Heritage Partnership Program (MHPP) heritage planning projects;
    • Owners of designated Municipal Historic Resources listed on the Alberta Register of Historic Places are eligible for conservation funding from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation for approved conservation work.
