Main Street Accreditation

In addition to the general eligibility requirements for membership in the Alberta Main Street Network, the following ten Standards of Performance must be achieved and sustained to qualify for status as an Accredited Main Street Community:

  1. Broad-based community support for the commercial district revitalization process, with strong support from both the public and private sectors;
  2. Vision and mission statements relevant to community conditions and to the local Main Street program's organizational stage;
  3. Comprehensive Main Street work plan that details short, medium and long term strategies under Main Street's Four-Point Approach of Organization, Design, Marketing and Economic Development;
  4. Heritage conservation/ historic preservation ethic to ensure appropriate protection measures;
  5. Active board of directors and committees to help guide, facilitate, oversee, and be accountable for local Main Street activities;
  6. Adequate operating budget that will maintain a viable and sustainable Main Street organization;
  7. Professional Project Coordinator paid by the Main Street community;
  8. Program of ongoing training conducted for staff and volunteers;
  9. Reporting of key statistics to track level of funding, building rehabilitation, marketing and economic development activity; and,
  10. Current Member of the National Main Street Centre Membership in the US National Trust Main Street Centre is encouraged by AMSP
